Project 4: FORM & SPACE - a retreat house

designing a dwelling form with intention

OBJECTIVES:

• to design a dwelling (FORM) on a specific site (SPACE) according to specific requirements
• to SOLVE multiple architectural design requirements for a specific site
• to ACKNOWLEDGE the selected method of construction
• to UNDERSTAND the SPATIAL quality in design
• to FOCUS on FUNCTIONAL and AESTHETICS composition

INTRODUCTION:

a form of dwelling is NOT necessarily a house people live in..understand the INTENTIONS, and introduce the ACTIVITY & BEHAVIOUR that may OR may not need specific SPACE requirements for its..THINK of your UNIQUE personality as a DESIGN PROBLEMS and SOLVE it..produce your own brief by identifying WHO is the USER..JUSTIFICATION is the essential factor.

PROJECT REQUIREMENTS:

Site Analysis - Group Presentation

• A1 size butter paper

Design Proposal - Individual Presentation

• final presentation MUST be in A1 size hard board
• final model MUST be on a hard base
• design process in A3 butter paper booklet
• all drawings must be done MANUALLY using pen and COLORED/RENDER

4. Drawings:

• key plan - nts
• location plan - nts
• site plan - 1:100

• 1 section - 1:50
• 1 section - 1:25
• 1 isometric / axonometric - 1:100
• internal & external perspective - A4 size

5. Model:

• working model
• complete model (c/w site context) - 1:50

Project Duration - 4 weeks

Interim Crit - 26th May 2006

Final Crit - 2nd June 2006

Submission - 12th June 2006

Project Schedule:

week 1 - 15/5/2006 - site visit

19/5/2006 - site analysis presentation

week 2 - 22,24 & 26th May 2006 (interim crit)

• preliminary / conceptual design concept - intentions & determining precedent
• development of space planning
• form articulation - massing model, sketches idea, site plan, floor plan, 1 elevation & 1 section

week 3 - 29, 31st May 2006

• complition of design development - spatial articulation, facade treatment

2nd June - Final Crit - all drawings (except for perspectives)

week 4 - 5, 7 & 9th June 2006

• preparation & complition for submission

week 5 - 12th June 2006

Submission & Final Presentation - all presentation MUST be ready to be accessed by 10 am on that day .
